Get Inside This Mysterious Abandoned 18th Century Home With A Cannon In The Living Room

If you love the idea of time capsules, you can’t miss this exciting post by Sean Morrison on the Mirror about a mysterious abandoned house that has practically been frozen in time. It even has an 18th century-style cannon in its living room!

There’s an abandoned home in France that’s filled with some of the most amazing things. Nobody seems to know how long the home has been abandoned, but it’s like a time capsule. At some point the home belonged to an unknown war fanatic, so it has lots of fantastic war memorabilia, such as a Union Jack flag, the United States flag and even an 18th century-style cannon in the living room.

Recently, amateur Parisian photographer, Florian Michaud, entered the derelict home and took some beautiful photographs. They include a dusty billiards table, a mural of people in French renaissance dress and a luxury bedroom. The house is an absolutely fantastic find.

The amateur Parisian photographer, who took these photos, shares:

“The images radiate with an aura of unusual and magic that are brought about the vision of nature taking over decomposition.”

“This battle between life and death is what I’m aiming to capture in my photo shoots.”

“I fell in love with this kind of scenery and wanted to keep forever what I saw and felt.”

“I am especially fascinated by places where everything’s still standing, as if inhabitants simply vanished.”

“There’s a long stage of investigation in my urban explorations before I can take pictures.”

“Most of the time, field survey and spotting yield nothing because the location has turned out to be uninteresting.”

“Eventually, as I am very persistent, I end up finding a place that’s been forgotten yet became magical and off-beat.”

“It vibrates with something powerful and out of the ordinary that triggers in me an overwhelming flow of creative ideas and awakens an urge to simply catch the moment.”

Is Running The Best Type Of Exercise?

The question is often asked as to what is the best exercise for a person? The answers vary from person to person, depending on who you speak to. One thing is certain – running factors into this equation.

Taken from the Journal of Progress in Cardiovascular Disease, we find that runners live on average three years longer than non runners. Even if you drink, smoke and are overweight, if you run you will reduce the risk of dying early by up to 40{a30e0c09ff70771d4c2559ca452283db427b609927687ae1d17157c286cad949}. An hour of running will therefore increase your life expectancy by seven hours.

While running may not be the fountain of youth, so to speak, it has been shown to be more effective than walking, cycling or swimming. Even 5 – 10 minutes a day running will reduce the risk of heart disease, and early deaths in general. This is a whole lot less than the government recommendations which are about 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise. Most people – it was found – ignore this as they feel that it is too much.

Another point of view- as far as the best exercise goes – is that the exercise you actually do, is the best one! If you hate an exercise, and never do it, it makes no different whether it is good or bad. Running, however, is thought to be the best for a number of reasons.

Running reduces your risk of dying early by between 25{a30e0c09ff70771d4c2559ca452283db427b609927687ae1d17157c286cad949} and 40{a30e0c09ff70771d4c2559ca452283db427b609927687ae1d17157c286cad949}. Photograph: Adam Hester/Getty Images/Blend Images

You can’t cheat at running! You have to do it, you can’t rely on machinery to help you. It is cheap, and it is easy. Simply put on a decent pair of running shoes and head out of the door.

Even jogging counts as ‘moderate exercise’ so even if you are just starting and can’t go much faster, that’s okay, it all counts.

According to Angelique Brellenthin of Iowa State University, it would take 105 minutes of walking to achieve the same benefits as a 25 minute run. Non runners are also twice as likely to die from strokes and sudden heart attacks.

One argument that is often brought up is that people who suffer from knee pain cannot run. It is possible to reduce knee pain by running on soft surfaces, avoiding hills, doing exercises to strengthen the knee muscles, and wearing good quality running shoes. There is no evidence, says Brellenthin, that running increases the risk of osteoarthritis of the knee.

As with any exercise, running should be built up slowly so as not to injure yourself. Do not be tempted to try a marathon before you are ready! Brellenthin goes on to say that you only need 30 – 60 minutes a week to start to see the results, and for it to be beneficial for your body.

Siamese Fighting Fish With The Colors Of Thailand National Flag Sold For Over $1.5K

A Siamese fighting fish with the colors of the Thai national flag has been bought for a whopping 53,500 baht ($1,530) at an online auction, possibly making it the most expensive Betta fish ever sold.

Despite their relatively small size, Siamese fighting fish are well-known for their extremely territorial behaviour. And they certainly live up to their name. But they’re popular aquarium fish because they’re beautiful, with ornate fins and vibrant colors. Siamese fighting fish are usually one or more colors, such as red and blue.

However, a very special Siamese fighting fish was recently sold in Bangkok for 53,500 baht ($1,530). This fish fetched such an enormous sum because it’s got red, blue and white stripes, just like the Thai national flag. The 40-year-old man who sold the fish, Kachen Worachai, is a convenience store owner who breeds Siamese fighting fish as a hobby. He never thought he’d end up making such an enormous sum from selling one fish!

Pictures of the fish went viral after Kachen posted them on a private Betta fish auction group on Facebook. Kachen had expected someone to purchase the Siamese fighting fish for a few thousand baht (1000 baht = $28) but was surprised when the bid hit 10, 000 baht ($285) on the next day.

“I never expected my fish to go for this price.”

He posted the pictures on Nov. 6 with a starting bid of 99 baht ($2.82) and closed the auction on Nov. 8.

Betta fish have been bred previously to reproduce the colors of the Thai flag but Kachen said none have come close. He said the highest previous price for a Betta was for a half-moon Betta fish that sold for 23,500 baht ($671).

“The chance of getting a fish with the flag’s exact color is like one in 100,000,” said Kachen. “So many people have tried to breed the Thai flag colors. Luck was really on my side.”

Identical Twins Who Suffered From Horrific Cystic Acne Reveal Vegan No-Fat No-Oil Diet Helped Clear Their Skin In Just 3 DAYS

Most teenagers are plagued with acne and are pleased to outgrow this phase. But what happens when you don’t outgrow it? This pair of identical twin sisters revealed how they cured their painful and swollen cystic acne in just a few months simply by changing their diet.

YouTubers Nina and Randa Nelson, 22, were raised eating a vegan diet, and were therefore used to avoiding animal products such as dairy and red meat, which are known to contribute to blemishes and oily skin. Yet, having gone through high school almost completely free from spots and blemishes, at the age of 20 in the spring of 2014, the girls suddenly found themselves struggling with severe and painful breakouts.

Over the ensuing months, the Los Angeles-based pair tried a myriad of different cleansers, topical medications, antibiotics and more as they consulted several dermatologists about their condition. But nothing seemed to work.

The girls, who are both actresses and singers, were particularly dismayed by the issue as it caused them to lose confidence when it came to performing.

Eventually the girls were told that they had exhausted their options for acne treatment and were told to go on controversial acne drug Accutane, which was formerly known as a ‘wonder cure’ for acne, but has also been known to cause hair loss, cracked lips and has even been linked to serious depression.

“There has to be another alternative. We thought, it has to be something we’re putting into our body. But what is it? We don’t know. We are already vegan, what should we do?”

It was then that the girls’ father encouraged them to look up diet specialist Dr.John McDougall, who previously had helped their mother overcome a debilitating autoimmune disease a few years before – which was, as it happens, the reason the family began following a strict plant-based diet.

Painful: The girls admit in their videos that they were embarrassed about their condition – and avoided showing their bare faces on camera when they were suffering from breakouts.

When they visited the doctor’s website, they saw the claims he made about how acne could, in fact, be eliminated through diet alone. Mainly, he recommended the elimination of foods containing oils and fats of any kind.

Even though the girls followed a strict vegan diet, it was suggested that they omit foods containing any oils and fats. ‘What Dr. McDougall said on his website about acne and excess fats made complete sense to us, so we tried it,’ they explained.

The sisters were stunned to see results within three days with no new breakouts happening then. Over a period of time, their skins cleared beautifully until they were totally clear.

‘Within three days, we had no new breakouts!’ they explain in their video. ‘It was [then] just a matter of healing up the scars.’

The graphic photos here show their amazing progress.

Switching up: Though the girls were raised vegan, they were still eating foods with natural fats and oils such as soy milk, peanut butter and avocados

Mother’s Public Service Announcement About Not Making Her Kids Share Should Be Required Reading For All Parents

Do we teach kids to do things without actually realising what we are trying to get across? Here’s a lady who questioned one of the ideals that kids are taught. The idea of sharing. Now, before you get all wound up about it, hear her story, and then decide.

Alanya Kolberg and her son Carson had gone to the park. Carson had taken along some of his favourite action figures and was quite content playing with them, when he was approached by a group of boys who demanded that he share his toys with them. Obviously the lad was a little overwhelmed, and reluctant to give up his toys, so he looked at mom for help.

Mom explained very politely that Carlson did not have to share, in fact, all he had to tell the boys was a simple ‘no’, which he did. This brought all sorts of dirty looks from the other mothers. Alanya decided to post her story, and did. ‘MY CHILD IS NOT REQUIRED TO SHARE WITH YOURS’.

Kolberg’s Facebook

Again, before you get all worked up, think about that statement. If you were to take your lunch into the park and sit down, ready to eat it. Would a well mannered adult simply come over and grab your lunch and eat it? Are you required to share your lunch with anyone who feels like a bite? The answer is ‘no’.

“So really, while you’re giving me dirty looks, presumably thinking my son and I are rude, whose manners are lacking here? The person reluctant to give his 3 toys away to 6 strangers, or the 6 strangers demanding to be given something that doesn’t belong to them, even when the owner is obviously uncomfortable?”

Why then, asked Alanya, can our children also not just say ‘no’. No explanation is needed, a simple ‘no’ should suffice. While it is important to share, there is also a time when you are not required to share unless you feel that you would like to.

Another example is if you were to go into your favourite coffee shop, and manage to get the window seat with a view. You order your coffee, and sit down to enjoy it. People want your seat simply because they want the view from it. Are you obliged to stand up and sit elsewhere? Alanya says the answer is that you are not obligated to give up your seat.

Alanya feels that while the goal should be to teach children how to function as adults, parents also need to teach them how to set boundaries. Parents are sadly lacking in doing this, she says. There is nothing wrong with saying ‘no’.

There is a huge difference, says Alanya, between the child who refuses to share all the time, and the child who does not want to share because he has not finished playing with his own toys yet. Alanya feels that parents need to stop teaching children to be more self sacrificial that they are.

So the next time your youngster runs back to you and says that the other kid won’t share, consider that we do not live in a world where kids have to give up everything they have because the other kid said so. A simple ‘no’ should mean the end of the confrontation.

A Vegan Woman Faces 10 Years In Prison For Giving Pigs Water On Hot Day

This unbelievable article is about a kind-hearted vegan who gave a pig some water while it was on route to be slaughtered. Now she faces up to ten years in prison for her good deed!

Anita Krajnc, 48 faces up to ten years in prison for giving water to a thirsty pig heading to the slaughter on a hot summer day.

Krajnc and a fellow protester tried to give the pigs some water that they clearly needed, when the tractor-trailer carrying them was stopped at a traffic light to the Fearmans Pork processing facility, about 45 miles south-west of Toronto.

A video of the incident shows the driver climbing from the vehicle to confront Krajnc.

“Jesus said, ‘If they are thirsty, give them water,’” she told him.

“You know what? These are not humans, you dumb frickin’ broad,” the  driver angrily responded to her.

The lorry driver threatened to call the police then asked: “What you got in that water?”

When she replied that it was just water, he said: “How do I know?”

The hog farmer Eric Van Boekel, who owned the pigs, filed a police complaint the next day. Krajnc was charged with criminal mischief and originally faced up to ten years in prison.

“It’s an outrage. It’s insane to charge somebody with criminal mischief for doing that,” Krajnc told the Guardian after the pre-trial hearing in November, 2015.

pig3 Vegan Gives Pigs On Way To Slaughterhouse Water, Faces 10 Years In Prison

“Offering water to a thirsty pig is an act of compassion. It is not only a right, but a duty we all share. Causing the pigs to suffer in the first place is what is wrong. I face these criminal charges with dignity, knowing that truth and justice are on my side,” she added.

The pigs’ owner, Van Boekel, said his pigs are treated ethically and in accordance with all standards and regulations. He told the Guardian that he was concerned for both the safety of his product and that of the animal rights protesters, who sometimes crowd near the large transport vehicles when they are stopped in traffic.

“We don’t have a fight with the protesters per se,” he said.

“It’s a free country. Their views – we don’t agree – but they have a right to their opinion as we do ours. If they’d like to protest in a safe and reasonable manner, they’re afforded those rights.”

Krajnc was charged with criminal mischief and originally faced up to ten years in prison. But last December the Crown announced it intended to proceed by summary conviction, which would carry a maximum sentence of six months in jail, a $5,000 fine, or both.

Krajnc’s legal team plan to bring virtual reality headsets to screen footage from inside a factory farm and slaughterhouse, and have lined up a series of expert witnesses to argue the health and environmental merits of veganism.

Secret Camera Solves 4-Month-Mystery Of Disappearing Expensive Koi Fish From A Garden Pond

Every garden has a secret life when things come alive. The Lost Gardens at Heligan, Cornwall can testify to the fact that things go on at night. For four months the fish in their pond had were disappearing regularly. Even after installing a camera, the staff were unable to find the intruder.

Fish scales were found around the pool, as were signs of otter spraint (dung), and the staff were fairly certain that they had a visiting otter. The camera was repositioned and the staff waited for the otter to show up. More fish were stocked in the pond and the staff waited eagerly to see who would show up.

Claire Pumfrey, the wildlife director was thrilled to find that the cameras had successfully captured footage of the otter. It turned out to be a beautiful male otter, somewhat camera shy, but definitely after the fish!

“I was thrilled to finally see our fish stealing visitor – a beautiful resident male otter,” Claire said.

“We had already identified otter spraint (dung) throughout the gardens’ watercourses and the tell-tale fish scales and ever decreasing fish populations were all pointing to an otter.”

“To finally see him though is rare and real treat.”

The otter was also found to be taking baths in other pools in the gardens. Heligan’s estate is also well known for kingfishers, owls, bats and badgers who sometimes visit the grounds.

Claire said that while most visitors who came during the day would never see the nightlife, it was great that they could show footage of the night visitor, and she hoped that people would better understand the habits of the beautiful otter. You can see the footage of the otter in the video, which shows him very clearly catching his supper from the pond!

There certainly is a secret life which takes place after all the daily activity is over, and people have gone home!

“Although it’s highly unlikely that visitors are ever going to see our resident otter for themselves, we are pleased to be able to share with them this footage and further their understanding of this beautiful creature,” he said.

“There’s a secret life to the Lost Gardens that only occurs once the visitors and staff have gone home for the night.”

SLUGMAGEDDON! 500 Billion Hungry Slugs Are Set To Wreak Havoc In The UK

A mild, frost free winter followed by a warm spring have created a slug baby boom, with 80 million of them more likely to be born, according to experts.

Jude Beherall, from Neudorff, said: “A mild winter with minimal frosts will produce a glut of slug eggs and, once hatched, these young slugs will be looking to feed their voracious appetites and will head straight for the tender foliage of young plants.

“We are advising gardeners to be fully prepared with slug controls at the ready to ensure their hard work in the garden is preserved.”

Average temperatures over winter of 2016/2017 were 5C, the temperature that usually wakes slugs from hibernation. The winter heatwave means the slugs haven’t headed off for their usual kip, instead working hard on building up a bumper crop of baby slugs.

“Last year’s wet but very mild conditions mean unfortunately we’re in for more of the same,” said the charity Buglife’s Paul Hetherington.

“The conditions were perfect for slugs to remain active for a longer period, meaning they were eating more and breeding faster and as a result the little ones were maturing at a quicker rate.”

To make matters worse, Paul said that the shrinking numbers of birds, beetles and Hedgehogs (the natural predators of the slugs) are also helping increase their numbers.

BugLife is urging gardeners not to make the matter worse by trying to kill slugs with poisonous pellets, as the poisoned slugs are then killing off the predators that feast on them.

“There are a number of more natural ways to get rid of slugs that do not also involve killing animals all the way up the food chain,” Mr Hetherington said.

Instead they recommend using copper tape or some plants you are prepared to sacrifice to counter slugs naturally.

“I use fuschias in my own garden – slugs hate fuschias, so it’s a good idea to plant them surrounding plants that slugs usually destroy, like hostas,” he advised.
